A useful addition, not a detached link
Imagine an existing article explaining customer onboarding. A detailed onboarding checklist could add a practical next step if the surrounding paragraph naturally introduces it. That is an illustrative fit, not a live opportunity. If the destination has little to do with the passage, choosing a different page is better than forcing a mention.
What your brief should contain
Provide the exact destination, its value to the reader, relevant topics and any candidate articles you want considered. Explain whether the suggested wording is essential or flexible. Ask how the publisher handles edits and whether you can review the proposed page, passage and anchor before proceeding. Commercial links need appropriate qualification.
Can I choose the exact anchor?
You may state a preference, but do not assume exact wording is accepted. Editorial discretion and approval rights must be clarified in the proposal.
Is an older article automatically better?
